Anchorage Hotel
I worked at the Anchorage Hotel from 92-93 before the renovations. Although I didn't find it haunted (and I do attract that sort of thing) I did find it so historic and interesting! there were windows you could look out of and see the damage on the corner of the building from the Great Earthquake. The Sydney Lawrence Room was occupied by a "grand dame" that told wonderful stories of the era when Mr. Lawrence actually lived at the hotel. All in all, a great experience for my first job in the Great Land! - Susan , posted 09/29/09

great character
Raul said it was about the same as the other Hotels in downtown, but they are cheaper. THe high end here overlaps with the low end costs at the Sheraton, HIlton, and Captain Cook, which all ran the same. About 300 per night. You could go much higher if you wanted at the others. I could not afford that for just one night out on the town. We chose character versus a cookie cutter standard hotel room.

They have a great bar downstairs that would be perfect for hosting a reception. THey use it for the continental breakfasts in the morning. I was in their just trying to think of an event i could rent it for. A really neat space. - , posted 09/23/09

Simply Wonderful Getaway
Funky and I, needing an evening out before her mom flwe the coop and ehaded south for the winter booked a room at the Historic Anchorage Hotel.

Located in downtown at 330 E. Street, it is right next to the Hilton. It's heavily history laden and a lot of neat things to learn about Anchorage during the stay. One that made me laugh was that it had Anchorage's first underground garage as they refurbished the basement at one point to be a sled dog kennel that would hold 100 sled dogs.

Rooms are nice and the prices are about where you would expect for a nice hotel in down town. Funky wanted a nice simple room and liked the standard room, but she shouldn't ever leave me alone to book a room as I booked the deluxe room. A king bed, sitting area, big screen TV, wireless internet, built in bar area with glassware and mini fridge, and a neat old soaking tub with great fixtures in an updated but not modernized bath.

It's close to shopping and galleries downtown as well as good food. We walked to Orso for dinner that night and wandered through the galleries on our way back.

All in all, a beautiful night.

I would recommend the Historic Anchorage Hotel to anyone and plan on staying there again someday. - Raul (sounds... , posted 09/13/09
